Task 3:

Your sister has bought a new piggy bank as a birthday gift for her best friend.Upon seeing the present,her best friend returned it to her immediately and said that its material gives a clear view of the amount of coins and dollar notes she has put into it and she does not like the idea.

Your sister looks at the piggy bank again and she cannot figure out what is wrong with the material of the piggy bank.She approaches you for help.

She needs you to tell her what is wrong with the choice of the material for the piggy bank and what would be a better material in this case.As the gift is quite costly,she wants you to come up with solutions to alter the design of the piggy bank by ensuring that people cannot see the amount of coins and dollar notes put in

You are encouraged to present to your sister creatively.



Answer:I think that people would be able to see through and be tempted by the thought of stealing some money and that is why she doesn't like it.You could use porcelain as a substitute or if you want to alter it ,you could paint it or decorate it with coloured paper.

Self - discpline

In a school there was this lazy fat transfer student named John.He always failed in his exams and it took him 20 minutes to run one lap. He only had 0 friends often disobeyed his teachers by hurling vulgar words at them.

He,after a month of school felt left out as, everybody ignored him and always looked down on him.He ,being lazy didn't change his attitude.Days,months and even years passed but he still didn't change his attitude and got even lazier than before.He insulted people,skipped classes,fought frequently and was even expelled for one month.

He then decided to take action and turned over a new leaf.He cut down on fried,fatty foods and exercised regularly,he learned lots of new things and finally became top in class and in the whole level.He also learned to control his anger.He has made lots of new friends which treat him well.

He has learnt a lesson which is,to change your attitude when you see that people around you feel that you are uncouth.He has learnt self-discipline and hopes that other people who are like him can also turn over a new leaf.

Entry 18: Reflective Time for Science (Light Energy)

My parents on the light when they watch the television,the basement of our condominium lights up when nighttime falls,the street lamps lining the street also light up at night,the lights at the bus stop illuminate it and while walking back home at night , we use it to find our way home.Light helps me do my homework at night and practically helps our whole family do lots of stuff.I think a world without light is as good as a world without sight,we need light to do almost everything and without it the world will be covered in darkness.

Entry 17: Classroom Cleanliness

I think that the classroom isn't clean because I don't think that we have acted enough to prevent the classroom from being dirty.I think it is important to keep the classroom clean because it provides a better learning learning environment for us students.We keep the classroom clean by sweeping it once in a while or regularly and I sometimes participate in cleaning the white board and I have learnt to cooperate with people through this activity.

Entry 16: Influenza A H1N1

Influenza A H1N1 is a virus contracted by pigs. It spreads when a pig contracts the virus and the pig is then eaten by humans or comes in contact with humans the virus is transmitted and the person will pass it on to other people.China, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia ,Laos and Vietnam. In many countries, schools have been closed down to prevent or try to slow down the spread of the virus, trace travel history to infected countries so that such people who do so will be quarantined, they have also advised people to avoid crowded places and to have high standards of hygiene so as to not get infected with the influenza. Initially, it was thought that high fever was one of the symptoms of H1N1 but recently, it has recently been discovered that it was not necessary the case as low fever could also been a symptom. however, i believe its necessary to take our temperature as a precautionary measure. Singapore has requested people to declare their travel history honestly so that prior notice will slow down community spread of the virus, we are also told to stay a metre away from each other as well. I wash my hands regularly and keep good hygeine.

Entry 15: SA 1 Review

I think the exams have been a fair test because the topics that we were tested on were the topics that we learned.I think that I have not done well enough and I think that the cause of it is that I haven't been putting in effort or I haven't been trying hard enough.I think that the enrichment classes are useful as they help improve my studies and I can learn new things from these classes.I think my home tuition has helped because I am learning alot from it.I will study harder and willsurf the internet for more information.I think the school should have more classes which will help us gain more knowledge.

Olympic Values:friendship

One tuesday morning,when the day dawned bright and clear,Jack woke up to the crystal clear sound of birds chirping.Today was the day that he and his friend Sam were going to the convenience store together to get some groceries for their families.He jumped out of bed and quickly changed,combed his hair, tucked the money he got from his parents inside his pocket and ran out of his house quickly.

He met Sam at the entrance of the convenience store and they went inside, happily chatting with each other.Jack made a grab for the last loaf of raisin bread but apparently,Sam also wanted that loaf of bread and was also making a grab for it."HEY!I SAW THAT FIRST, IT'S MINE!'' Jack shouted ''NO IT ISN'T,IT'S MINE!'' Sam shouted back.They argued and hurled abusive words at each other and also caused quite a commotion.The shopkeeper stormed towards them and fumed''THE TWO OF YOU BETTER GET OUT OF MY SHOP OR ELSE I'M GOING TO CALL THE SECURITY GUARD!''The two of them walked out of the shop and yelled at each other''IT'S YOUR FAULT WE GOT KICKED OUT!''Sam yelled''NO, IT'S YOUR FAULT!''Jack yelled back.

They argued again and ended up fighting.Sam punched Jack in the head and Jack crumpled to his knees and fell to the ground unconscious.Sam,filled with dread, started panicking and immediately ran from the scene.
A passerby which witnessed the accident called the ambulance and almost immediately could hear the wail of the sirens.They carried Jack's body on a stretcher and rushed him to the hospital.

The next day, Sam visited Jack at the hospital and asked ''will you forgive me?'' ''yes.'' croaked Jack.After Jack was discharged ,he and Sam became the best of friends again.

Entry 14: Kindness

Kindness means helping somebody and not asking for anything in return.Yes, because if we don't have kindness in this world or the world won't be as nice.People can express their kindness by helping the needy and giving to the poor.I have helped by donating two dollars to needy people before and i felt quite happy.I would ike to do more but i am still thinking how.I think i can promote the message by being kind to them and doing lots of other kind suff.

Entry 13: International Friendship Day

We celebrate it by making friends from other countries and I don't know how it came about.I think it means the ten countries which participated in this.Yes,i like the event hosted by the school as it is interesting and quite fun.I do not have any friends in any ASEAN countries and i think the school can host other interesting events on this topic to develop more friends from ASEAN countries.

Entry 12: Improving the School

I think that the stall vendors must be quicker in their work and not make their customers upset just because of a long wait.The other services are okay and the teachers are doing a good job of teaching and educating us students.As for our school facilities,the toilets might need a more thorough cleaning and more colour.The field, parade square and other facilities don't really need an upgrade as they seem okay by my standards.I like the parade square and the field as they are very spacious and are not enclosed.I think that the classrooms can
be upgraded.I think the rest should stay as they serve a purpose.We can help by taking care of the facilities and not vandalising them.

Entry 10: APSVoice

I think that we can take care of our belongings by keeping an eye on our belongings or asking somebody who is free who is in your CCA group to keep an eye on each other's belongings.My CCA mates keep their belongings in the class or put their belongings next to them.We would look over each other's stuff while keeping an eye on our own belongings at the same time.

Entry 9: Activities for Becoming Better Readers

I think the following activities enable us to become better readers:
1.You need to find a book you are comfortable with, while not necessarily knowing all the words.
2.Try to decipher what the author is trying to express.
3.Think on whether the characters are believable.
4.Think on whether there is more than one plot going on.
5.Think on what type of terminology does the author use.
6.Read the storybook version of a movie instead of watching it.
7.Read more books you are comfortable with.
8.Read during your spare time.
9.Read as much as you can.
10.Think about the book's plot.

Entry 8: Review of T1 Target-Setting Exercise

The purpose of setting targets is to reach our goal of higher marks and i think it is useful because it sets a goal which makes me strive harder.Normally,i would set my target depending on how strong i am in that subject and i would do twice my normal homework and my plan is to remeber as much facts as i can.my parents are helping me by teaching me as much as they know and providing useful tips.I would try to think of the things my parents would reward me with and that might motivate me a bit.I think they can help me achieve that by teaching us more useful facts.

Entry 7: Festivals in Singapore

I celebrate Easter and Good Friday because i am a catholic and i celebrate it by praying and going to church to do religious stuff.The few festivals i know are,Thaipusam and Deepavali and the Indians celebrate them because they pray to their gods.I think it does knowing each others festivals can help us to be more tolerant towards each other.In my opinion,we can develop stronger bonds by being friends with other races.

Entry 6: March Term Break

I think the school gets us to do silent reading in the morning because they want us to enjoy the book and inculcate good reading habits.I like it as normally i cannot concentrate on the book if there is too much noise and only during silent reading time and recess time i get to read my book and since there are teachers around to keep the pupils silent i can read quietly and i like reading as i can learn alot of new words and phrases.Normally, i would read books about facts and fiction and i think it will help me with my school work as it can help me in various subjects which use english.The school can encourage pupils to read more by holding a programme on reading more books and ''telling'' them that reading is fun.I would suggest a series of scientific books titled ''Horrible Science'',the author is Nick Arnold and i like his books because they are full of facts.

Entry 5: Activities Outside School

I am involved in church lessons on Saturdays only and normally spend about an hour in the church.I am involved in this activity because i am a catholic and i think this helps me because it helps me learn more about my religion.It does not affect my studies as i always finish them before i go for these lessons.I do not feel stressed because i find it very interesting and they give us very little home work so it does not intervene with
my time table.I think people should be involved in outside school activities because they should know what is going on in the outside world.

Entry 4: Journey Earth Hour 2009

We can fight climate change by not littering,not polluting ,not wasting food and water and protecting the ecosystem.We also should show concern for earth by caring for animals and other living things.we should also not waste electricity by offing the lights when not needed and try to save as much electricity as possible.

I would protect my friends by helping them walk ,help them carry their school bag when they are sick or injured.I would protect my family by taking care of them and looking after them .I would protect my house by not letting any strangers into my house and finally I would protect the trees by advising against the cutting of trees and going green

Entry 3: My Visit to Thye Hua Kuan Hospital

I saw lots of sick,feeble and elderly people . These elderly people who are not so mobile, were seen aided by medical staff. Seeing this , makes me feel how much these elderly needed help in their daily acitivities. As these elderly people are slower , we have to exercise more patience with them. I can serve the community - helping needy old people by taking care of them.

Entry 2: School's Vision, Mission and Values

The school values are passion for learning,integrity our foundation and excellence in everything we do ,our vision is for a school of nurturing future-ready citizens of character and our mission is providing quality education to equip pupils with the values,knowledge and skills for the 21st century.I think that our school values have a very good meaning and we as pupils, should learn to respect them and obey them.I believe in the school values because they are very reasonable and we should strive for it.For some people they would not think about this but other people do which is a very good thing and may help us in the future.we as students can live up to this by practising courtesy and being polite and so on.I think they can organise something like a courtesy program and many other helpful activities.

Entry 1: Blog Netiquette

In my perspective it means alot .we should respect each other when in cyberspace,have no usage of vulgar words in our posts,obey the rules and regulations of the site,do not send spams or viruses to anybody,do not hack into anybody's accounts when in cyberspace.
